Lanna Thornhill Goes Pro for Chuffed! | S1 Roller Skate Lifer
For the past few years, Chuffed has been dedicated to creating more opportunities for talented skaters, establishing itself as the leading brand for professional roller skate models and diversifying the offer of skate products at the same time. With the launch of the Jade and Tia pro models, Chuffed shook up the industry by introducing some of the first skates to bear the names of their riders, especially with them being from Australia.
This year, the big surprise comes from Lanna Thornhill and her new pro model! Lanna has long been on the radar of skaters, particularly those in the transition scene. Lanna is known for her consistency and innovative approach to quad skating and has pushed the boundaries of tricks, inspiring skaters from all around the globe and doing so while maintaining a low social media profile.
With Lanna, Chuffed aims to challenge the notion that a large social media presence is necessary for opportunities in skating and that the true way to make a mark in this industry is with by having a pure love for roller skating. This collaboration has led to one of the most exciting projects of the year: a new pro boot that has been rigorously tested and redesigned over the past two years. The effort put into this project is immense; Lanna has pushed the design of her pro boot like no other, promising a product that can withstand heavy skating.
These skates feature a new material for Chuffed, which is leather! The Lanna Pro Boot has special reinforcements in the toe and ankle area and an internal heel securing plate to prevent heel lifts, since Lanna tested multiple skates in the market and found this to be a constant worry with her gear.
We had a short chat with Lanna we hope you enjoy!
Q: How do you feel about roller skating?
A: I adore bowls. Heavy on Earth for me is waking up early with a cup of coffee and being at the skatepark at sunrise. Getting a couple of grinds in early is my favourite way to start my day. I'm a big believer in skating anything and everything but pool block always made me smile the most.
Q: Do you have any tips for skating pool blocks?
- I prefer a wider roller skate truck for pool blocks; you want that nice crunch.
- Start exploring carve grinds—put some force into them, and practice with one foot, then both.
- Experiment with your setup; try different things whenever you can.
- Learn to bondo a crack and take care of your parks.
- A speaker and good tunes can make any session more fun.
- Wear your S1 Lifer Helmet Pro Knee Pads and keep shredding!
- Enjoy it while you can!
Q: What do you hope to see for the future of roller skating?
A: “I’m
excited to see various disciplines—street, bowl, vert, hills, rails, and
more—to bloom in this new era of roller skating. Brilliant to be able to
witness it. Excited for the next couple of years of roller skating to play out.
Hopefully, more pro products, more art, more roller skate-owned companies and
more people falling in love with the feeling of 8 wheels.”
Q: How was the process of creating this
boot with Chuffed?
A: Chuffed and I have gone through a rollercoaster testing these boots. We pushed harder than ever to make a firmer, cozy boot with shredding hard in mind. It’s been a dream of mine to release a roller skate boot, and I skated and tested my damn heart out.
I am blessed to have a company as patient as Chuffed walking me through this and for taking the chance on an international skater from Canada who would never normally get this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Thanks to everyone who has supported me to get to this spot, it has meant the world to me. I’m so excited to see people rocking these boots.
